Campaign Guidelines
Afrika Start welcome and support projects from black founders and creatives in the African Diaspora and on the continent, from a variety of categories:  Business, Film, Art, Music, Real Estate, Design, Fashion, Food, Games, Journalism, Craft, Photography, Publishing, Technology, and Tourism. Here are the  rules every Afrikastart project must follow:
- Projects must create something to share with others.
Afrikastart can be used to create all sorts of things: Business, Music, Events ideas and experiences.
But every project needs a plan for creating something and sharing it with the world.
Every creator must have a targeted goal for a specific projectt an end date and a clear vision to how they will share their project with the world.
- Projects and backer statistics must be honest and clearly presented.
Our community is built on trust and communication. Projects can’t mislead people or misrepresent facts. Creators should be honest about what they plan to accomplish and how they plan to do it. When a project involves manufacturing and distributing something complex, like a handbag, we require projects to show backers a prototype of what they’re making, and we prohibit the use of misleading imagery. Creators should not misrepresent or artificially inflate the number of backers or amounts pledged to their projects.
- Prototype demonstrationshould reflect a product’s clear vision a blue print, a diagram or an image of the expected project outcome. For example: You cannot raise funds for your hotel with a pool in it’s blueprint and your finished project will not have a pool!
- Misleading imageryincludes photorealistic renderings and heavily edited or manipulated images or videos that could give backers a false impression of a product’s current stage of development or end result. All imagery must reflect the actual intent of the project outcome and not overly exaggerated!
- Projects developing artificial intelligence (AI) technology or including AI-generated content are allowed in some situations, so long as the creator is transparent about how it will be used and they are contributing creativity to the project. Additional context on our rules about the use and development of AI can be found on our Creator Questions page.
- Updatesshould be communicated to backers at regular intervals to honestly communicate the progress of the work.
Additional context on our rules requiring prototypes and prohibiting misleading imagery can be found here. Further guidance on crafting an honest and clearly presented project can be found here.
Additional context on presenting facts about backers can be found here.
- Projects cannot fundraise for charity based on review.
While Charity is welcome to launch projects on Afrikastart, we need to emphasize the core of our mission is to bring black owned businesses and projects to life. In the future we will be launching a charity fundraiser for our community, however this is not the platform at this time
- Projects can’t offer equity.
Afrikastart is not an angel investment network, we are simply allowing black owned  businesses and projects to connect with their core consumer. Investment is not permitted on Afrikastart. Projects cannot offer incentives like equity, revenue sharing, or investment opportunities. In the future we will create a deal-room for such projects. Founders interested in our deal-room are free to contact-us to learn more.
- Projects can’t involve prohibited items.
We do not allow any of these campaigns on our platform.
These rules don’t cover every possible use of Afrikastart, but they explain our purpose and perspective.
Final decisions regarding which projects are appropriate for Afrikastart are based on these rules and made at our discretion.
